Shiraz to exhibit national handicrafts

The southern Iranian city of Shiraz is planning to host the 9th national handicraft exhibition at the historical site Karim Khan Citadel (Arg-e Karim Khan).

The event will showcase a wide variety of artworks and handicrafts by many craft creators including veteran and promising Iranian artists from 27 provinces.

Woodcarving, needlework, leatherwork productions, glassware, traditional jewelries, miniatures, ceramics, potteries and handwoven rugs and carpets are among the crafts that will be showcased at the exhibition in Karim Khan Citadel.

Karim Khan Citadel, as one of the famous tourist attractions in Shiraz, is an immense brick fortress and the most significant and largest building from Zand era, built in 1767 AD.

Iran has some 257 handicraft items on its national heritage list and over 116 of its works have received the UNESCO Award of Excellence.

Kilim, pottery, wooden furniture, hand-made glass and pendants are among Iran's main handicrafts export items.
